Wildfires Continue to Ravage Occupied Jerusalem

International Desk, May 1, 2025: Wildfires are still burning through the hills of occupied West Jerusalem, controlled by Israel, for the second consecutive day. While conditions have slightly improved on Thursday, May 1, compared to yesterday, the situation remains critical. Over 100 firefighting teams are working tirelessly to contain the flames, with additional support from firefighting aircraft arriving from various European countries.

According to The Times of Israel, roads that were closed due to the wildfires have been reopened, and residents evacuated from affected settlements have been allowed to return. However, the Israeli Fire and Rescue Service stated on Thursday, “We have not yet fully controlled the fire.” Although the situation has somewhat stabilized, authorities warn that it could worsen at any moment.
The wildfires have scorched approximately 5,000 acres of land in occupied Jerusalem, including 3,200 acres of forest. Canada Park in Modi’in has suffered the most extensive damage. The fires broke out on Wednesday morning across multiple hills in Jerusalem, fueled by strong winds and dry weather, which caused the flames to spread rapidly.
The Jerusalem Divisional Commander of Israel’s Fire and Rescue Service described the wildfire as the largest in Israel’s history, cautioning that the situation could deteriorate further. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the arrest of 18 individuals suspected of starting fires in various forested areas of Jerusalem
