Dhaka, May 8, 2025: Three police officers have been disciplined in connection with negligence of duty related to former President Md. Abdul Hamid’s departure from the country. The action follows significant public discourse and criticism surrounding the incident.
According to a brief statement issued by Police Headquarters at 7:45 PM on Thursday, May 8, one Additional Superintendent of Immigration Police has been withdrawn, while the investigating officer of a case filed against Abdul Hamid at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station and a Special Branch (SB) officer have been temporarily suspended.
The statement did not disclose the identities of the officers involved.
The controversy stems from a murder case filed against Abdul Hamid on January 14 at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station. The case also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajib Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul, and Obaidul Quader as accused. Prior to this, around 50 cases were filed in Kishoreganj against Awami League leaders, though Abdul Hamid was not named in those.
The incident has sparked widespread debate, with further developments expected as investigations continue.
