Pakistan Claims 'Fitting Response' to India's Operation Sindoor, Sharif Asserts

International Desk, May 7, 2025: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has claimed that his country delivered a "fitting response" to India’s military operation, dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which targeted sites inside Pakistan.

The statement was made during a speech in Pakistan’s National Assembly on Wednesday, amid escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Sharif alleged that India launched a covert attack under the cover of darkness to cause significant disruption within Pakistan. “As in the past, this time too, with the blessings of Almighty Allah, the support and prayers of the nation, our armed forces have given a befitting reply to this aggression,” he said. He added that Pakistan’s resolute response has “disrupted the enemy” and served as a reminder of Pakistan’s strength, valor, and capability as a nuclear power, asserting that it has “robbed the enemy of sleep.”
The Indian military conducted missile strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting what it described as “terrorist infrastructure.” The 25-minute operation involved 24 missiles, with India claiming up to 70 fatalities, while Pakistan reported 26 civilian deaths, including a child. The strikes were in retaliation for a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists, an incident India blames on Pakistan-backed groups.
Heavy exchanges of artillery fire have also been reported along the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in at least 10 deaths and over 30 injuries in Indian-administered Kashmir. Pakistan claims to have shot down five Indian fighter jets, while Indian officials have acknowledged the crash of three jets in Jammu and Kashmir. Sharif stated that Pakistan’s air force was fully prepared and even disrupted the communication systems of Indian jets, forcing them to retreat from Srinagar. “We could have shot down even more Indian jets,” he claimed.
Sharif credited the “courage and monumental success” of Pakistan’s armed forces to the entire nation and called for political unity to safeguard national security and soverngoing skirmishes mark the worst violence between India and Pakistan in over two decades, raising global concerns about further escalation.
