Dhaka, May 8, 2025 :Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministries of Youth and Sports, and Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, has announced that the Awami League’s affiliate organizations, Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League, are on the verge of being banned. The announcement was made via a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, May 8, 2025, around 10:45 PM.
In his post, Mahmud stated, “The process to ban Awami League’s affiliate organizations, Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League, is underway. The formalities, initiated about a week ago, are now in the final stage.” He further emphasized the commitment to the July mass uprising, adding, “Ensuring the ban and political obliteration of the genocidal Awami League and its affiliate organizations is a pledge of the July mass uprising.”
Previously, on October 23, 2024, the Awami League’s student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League, was banned and listed as a prohibited entity. The decision was formalized through a notification issued by the Political Branch-2 of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The move to ban these organizations is part of a broader effort to address the activities of Awami League and its affiliates, which have faced significant scrutiny following political developments in the country.
