02 June, 2025 : In a joint operation conducted in the Gaokura area of Islampur Pourashava, Jamalpur, authorities seized 206 sacks of government rice from the warehouse of Ma Rice Mill. Each sack contained 50 kilograms of rice, totaling 10,300 kilograms.
The operation took place in the early hours of Monday, June 2, 2025, around 2:00 AM. The raid was led by Army Captain Ahsan, Islampur Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Touhidur Rahman, and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Islampur Police Station, Saifullah.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint forces discovered that businessman Arif Mia had been illegally storing government rice in the rented warehouse of Ma Rice Mill and marketing it in sacks branded with various company seals. During the operation, Arif Mia was detained, and a case against him is under process. Although he claimed to have purchased the rice, he failed to provide valid documentation, leading to the sealing of the warehouse.
Local residents alleged that Arif Mia had been hoarding government rice meant for the poor and engaging in black-market activities for a long time. They expressed gratitude to the authorities for the action and demanded punishment for the businessman.
Islampur Police Station OC Saifullah stated that the operation was conducted around 1:00 AM based on confidential information received by the army’s patrol team. Upazila Executive Officer Touhidur Rahman confirmed that 206 sacks of rice were seized, and legal action will be taken against Arif Mia following further investigation.
