On the second day of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations in 2025, a total of 22,391 students were absent, while 41 were expelled for various irregularities and breaches of discipline. This information was disclosed in a press release signed by Professor Dr. Khandoker Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and President of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, on Sunday, June 29.
The examinations were conducted across 2,797 centers nationwide, with a total of 12.51 lakh registered candidates. Of these, 10,97,875 students participated, indicating an absenteeism rate of approximately 2%. The Dhaka Education Board recorded the highest participation, though 3,655 students were absent, and 8 were expelled for misconduct.
In the Cumilla Board, out of 86,989 registered candidates, 2,682 were absent, and 2 were expelled. Other boards, including Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Cumilla, also reported relatively high absenteeism rates. In contrast, the Chittagong and Jessore boards saw lower absenteeism. Notably, in the Mymensingh Board, three students and one teacher were expelled for resorting to unfair means.
Under the Madrasa Education Board, the Arabic First Paper (General and Science streams) exam took place, with 83,783 registered candidates. Of these, 79,292 participated, while 4,491 were absent, and 10 students were expelled, marking the highest number of expulsions in any board. In the Technical Education Board, the English Second Paper exam saw 1,18,052 participants, with 2,002 absent and 8 expelled.
The written examinations are scheduled to conclude on August 10, with practical exams running from August 11 to August 21.
The HSC and equivalent exams commenced on Thursday, June 26, at 10 a.m. across the country, with around 12.51 lakh candidates registered at 2,797 centers. On the first day, 19,759 students were absent, and 43 were expelled for violating exam rules.
