Fake Certificate Scam: Anti-Corruption Commission Files Case Against Former MP and Wife in Pirojpur
According to the case details, Laila Parveen was appointed as a lecturer in Islamic Studies at Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Women’s College in Nazirpur Upazila, Pirojpur, on December 22, 2013. Her husband, AKMA Awal, was a donor member and the president of the college’s governing body. Although the college was not initially under the Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme, it was nationalized in 2018. Following this, Laila Parveen withdrew a total of BDT 3,95,406 from the Nazirpur branch of Sonali Bank between August 8, 2018, and June 30, 2019. However, the SSC, HSC, and bachelor’s degree certificates she submitted for the appointment have been found to be fake.
The ACC alleges that Laila Parveen secured the lecturer position using forged certificates with the influence of her husband, AKMA Awal, and the assistance of the college principal, Thakur Chand Majumdar, leading to the embezzlement of government funds. The case is currently under investigation by the ACC.
