Dhaka, June 2, 2025: The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 includes an allocation of BDT 38,728 crore for the Ministry of Defence. Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed presented the budget in the National Parliament on Monday (June 2), which was broadcast live on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
In the current 2024-25 fiscal year, the Ministry of Defence was allocated BDT 40,082 crore, which was later revised to BDT 37,380 crore. The proposed allocation for the upcoming fiscal year reflects a slight increase compared to the revised budget of the previous year.
Additionally, a proposed allocation of BDT 40,698 crore has been made for the Armed Forces Division in the 2025-26 fiscal year. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, the division was allocated BDT 42,014 crore, which was revised to BDT 39,239 crore.
The Finance Adviser stated that the budget size has been reduced to restore economic discipline. However, the proposed allocation for the defence sector underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring national security and strengthening defence capabilities.
