Bhopal, June 3, 2025: In a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s opposition leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that Modi surrendered to Pakistan following a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump. Gandhi made these remarks during a party conference in Bhopal on Tuesday, addressing the recent India-Pakistan conflict and subsequent ceasefire.
Gandhi highlighted that on May 7, India launched missile strikes on Pakistan, which retaliated with counterattacks, downing at least five Indian fighter jets. On May 11, both nations agreed to a ceasefire. Gandhi alleged that this ceasefire was a result of Trump’s intervention, claiming Modi capitulated immediately after Trump’s call.
Drawing a historical parallel, Gandhi referenced the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, stating that then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi stood firm against U.S. pressure, despite the deployment of the U.S. Seventh Fleet. He said, “Trump makes one phone call, and Narendra Modi surrenders instantly. History is witness—this is the character of BJP-RSS. They always bow down.”
He further asserted, “Despite U.S. threats in 1971, India bifurcated Pakistan. Congress fights superpowers and never surrenders. Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Vallabhbhai Patel never bowed to external pressure.” Criticizing the BJP-RSS, Gandhi claimed they have a “habit of writing surrender letters” since India’s independence.
These remarks have sparked significant controversy in Indian political circles. The BJP has yet to issue an official response to Gandhi’s
