Chattogram, June 5, 2025 – A tragic accident occurred on the Kalurghat Bridge in Chattogram when the Parjatak Express train, traveling from Cox’s Bazar to Chattogram city, collided with several vehicles around 10:30 PM on Thursday. The collision left a CNG-powered autorickshaw severely mangled, resulting in the death of one child and injuries to several others, with one person in critical condition, according to police reports.
The incident took place on the Boalkhali section of the Kalurghat Bridge. Authorities report that the train was crossing the bridge with the signal system activated. However, several vehicles, disregarding the signal, attempted to cross the bridge, leading to the collision. The impact caused significant damage, with one autorickshaw crushed and other vehicles trapped beneath.
Aminul Islam, a firefighter from Kalurghat Fire Station, stated that they received news of the accident around 10:45 PM. Two units, including an ambulance, were dispatched to the scene, and rescue operations are ongoing. The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.
Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Sarwar confirmed that at least four vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the incident. One person, a child, was confirmed dead at the scene.
Rescue efforts continue as authorities investigate the cause of the signal violation and work to assist the victims.
