After a long break following ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, Bollywood’s ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan has made a comeback with his latest sports drama, ‘Sitare Zameen Par’. The much-anticipated film hit the screens with considerable buzz but had a moderate start at the box office.
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ collected ₹11.05 crore on its opening day. The Hindi-language film recorded an average occupancy rate of 17.73%. Morning shows saw an occupancy of 16.74%, which remained steady through the afternoon and evening, rising to 20.21% for the night shows.
However, the film’s opening day earnings fell short of breaking the record set by Aamir’s previous release, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, which earned ₹11.7 crore on its debut in 2022. In comparison, Salman Khan’s recent film ‘Sikandar’ grossed ₹26 crore on its opening day, significantly outperforming ‘Sitare Zameen Par’.
Directed by RS Prasanna, ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ revolves around the lives of 10 specially-abled young individuals who receive basketball coaching from Aamir Khan’s character, Amitabh. The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Aarush Dutt, Gopi Krishna Varma, Sambit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. Genelia D’Souza also plays a significant role in the movie.
The film is a Hindi remake of the 2018 Spanish blockbuster ‘Campeones’. Meanwhile, Aamir’s return has impacted the box office performance of ‘Housefull 5’, which earned only ₹1.85 crore on its 15th day, bringing its total collection to ₹169.95 crore so far.
