Australia Pledges $2 Million for Bangladesh’s Election Project

 

Dhaka, June 18, 2025: Ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, Australia has pledged $2 million in financial support for the Election Commission’s (EC) ‘Ballot Project,’ funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). A related agreement was signed between UNDP and the Australian Embassy at the Election Commission office on Wednesday.

The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin, UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Liller, and Australian High Commissioner Susan Riley.
In a press conference following the event, Stefan Liller stated, “We are committed to supporting the Election Commission in delivering the most transparent and fair election in Bangladesh’s history. UNDP will provide a total of $18.53 million for the Ballot Project.”
The EC Secretary noted that the project encompasses 16 components, including capacity building, awareness campaigns, and training programs. Detailed discussions on funding for these components have been held with UNDP.
The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in making the electoral process more transparent, efficient, and inclusive.
