Jamalpur, June 11, 2025: The Bangladesh Army successfully rescued a 16-year-old boy named Nuhash Aziz, 74 days after he was abducted, from a rehabilitation center in Dhaka. The rescue operation was conducted by the Tarakanndi temporary army camp in Sarishabari, Jamalpur, on Tuesday (June 10). Nuhash was handed over to his family the same night.
Nuhash Aziz, a ninth-grade student from a school in Dhaka, is the son of the late Matiur Rahman and Shamima Afroze Runa from the Jagannathganj area of Sarishabari. According to sources from the Tarakanndi temporary army camp, on March 26, Nuhash was abducted by his aunt, Saida Dil Afroze, and her son-in-law, Liton Adhikari, from a rented house in Kamarpara, Uttara, Dhaka, under the pretext of going for an outing. He was then falsely labeled a drug addict and admitted to the Green Life Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Dhaka.
Following the abduction, Nuhash’s family searched extensively for him. Unable to locate him, his mother, Shamima Afroze, filed complaints at the Uttara West Police Station in Dhaka and Tangail Sadar Police Station. When the police failed to make progress, she lodged a written complaint with the Tarakanndi temporary army camp in Sarishabari, Jamalpur. Based on intelligence information, the army identified Nuhash’s location and, with the family’s assistance, rescued him from the rehabilitation center. He was brought to the Tarakanndi army camp and reunited with his family on Tuesday night.
Shamima Afroze, Nuhash’s mother, stated, “I had filed a complaint at Uttara West Police Station. Later, I approached the Tarakanndi army camp. Last night, the army rescued my son and handed him over to us.”
Lieutenant Shahriar Talukdar Rifat of the Tarakanndi temporary army camp (26 Bir) told Dhaka Post, “Upon receiving the abduction complaint, the army launched an operation. Based on intelligence information, we located Nuhash at the Green Life Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Dhaka and successfully rescued him. He has been handed over to his family.”
This incident highlights the Bangladesh Army’s swift and effective response in ensuring the safe recovery of the abducted teenager.
