CNG Driver Killed in Shonir Akhda Over Fare Dispute

 

Dhaka, June 8, 2025 : In a tragic incident in Dhaka’s Shonir Akhda, a CNG auto-rickshaw driver named Naim Hossain (25) was allegedly beaten to death by a passenger following a dispute over fare. Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident.  

The incident occurred on Sunday (June 8) afternoon. The critically injured driver was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor at the emergency department declared him dead.
Kadamtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Aiyub confirmed the incident, stating that two police teams were dispatched—one to the hospital and another to the crime scene. "We learned from the hospital that the CNG driver had passed away. The suspect was detained at the scene. Initial questioning revealed that the altercation arose over a disagreement regarding the CNG fare," the OC said.
The deceased’s body has been sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway, police added.
