Passengers Attempt to Board Metro with Meat Despite Ban, Authorities Enforce Strict Measures

Dhaka,  June 08, 2025 : After remaining closed on Eid day, Dhaka’s metro rail resumed operations on Sunday, June 8. However, despite strict prohibitions, several passengers attempted to board the metro with raw and cooked meat, as observed at various metro stations.

Passengers were seen trying to carry meat in different ways—some in polythene bags, others in jute sacks, and some with cooked meat in plastic containers. At Pallabi Metro Station around 3:30 PM, at least four passengers attempted to board with meat but were stopped by security personnel Kamrul after bag checks.
Kamrul stated, “Many are bringing meat to the station, but we are not allowing them to board as per the instructions.” When a passenger pleaded to board with meat, citing a long journey, Kamrul pointed out that the polythene bag was leaking and that carrying meat on the metro is prohibited, with notices clearly displayed at the station.
A couple attempting to board with cooked meat in a plastic container was also denied entry. The male passenger argued, “I’ve already bought the ticket, and the food is packed in polythene; it won’t be an issue.” The security personnel directed him to return the ticket at the counter.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) had previously issued a notice, signed by Director (Administration) A K M Khayrul Alam, stating that carrying animal hides, raw, or cooked meat on the metro is prohibited. All passengers are thoroughly checked at station gates, and anyone found with meat is immediately denied entry.
To ensure cleanliness, DMTCL has imposed this ban, with strict instructions to security personnel to enforce the rule rigorously.
