Dhaka, June 12, 2025: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4) has arrested Hridoy Ahmed (42), the prime suspect in the murder and robbery of Ananda Roy Basfor (20), a college student in Ashulia. The arrest was made during a raid conducted on Thursday afternoon in the Baraipara Sikdar Bari area under Ashulia Thana.
According to RAB-4 Commander Lt. Colonel Md. Mahbub Alam, Ananda Roy, a second-year HSC student at Zirani Mannan Degree College, left his home on the night of June 8, stating he was going on a picnic with friends in Kaliakair. Around 10:30 PM, Hridoy Ahmed and his accomplices robbed Ananda of his iPhone and 10,000 taka in cash with the intent to steal. They subsequently killed him and dumped his body in a ditch inside the boundary of Kabirpur Radio Centre before fleeing.
Following the incident, a murder case was filed at Ashulia Thana on June 11. RAB-4 promptly initiated an investigation and conducted a raid, leading to Hridoy Ahmed’s arrest. Legal proceedings against him are underway.
