Courtesy Meeting Between Bangladesh Coast Guard and Australian Border Force: Strengthening Maritime Security Cooperation

 

On Monday, June 23, 2025, Rear Admiral Brett Sonter, Commander of the Australian Maritime Border Command and Joint Agency Task Force, Operation Sovereign Borders, along with a delegation from the Australian Embassy, paid a courtesy visit to Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Haque, Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, at the Coast Guard Headquarters.

During the meeting, the Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard expressed optimism about further strengthening the existing maritime security and cooperation between Bangladesh and Australia. He emphasized the importance of enhancing joint partnerships in enforcing maritime laws, increasing regional awareness, and developing capabilities. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of real-time information sharing, joint training, and strategic coordination to combat international crimes, illegal fishing, human and drug trafficking, and terrorist activities at sea.

Rear Admiral Ziaul Haque stated, “The Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Australian Border Force are working together based on professionalism and shared commitment. With Australia’s support in training, technical assistance, and enhanced surveillance capabilities, the effectiveness of the Bangladesh Coast Guard has significantly increased. We look forward to expanding this cooperation in the future.”
At the conclusion of the event, the Bangladesh Coast Guard expressed gratitude to the Australian delegation for their presence. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the continuity of friendly relations and partnerships built on mutual interests, expressing hope for a long-lasting alliance between the two nations.
