A Dhaka court has directed prison authorities to arrange the marriage of singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel with a former student of Eden Women’s College, who had previously filed a case against him for rape, torture, and violations under the Pornography Act. The court, presided over by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter, issued the order on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, following an application by Nobel’s lawyer.
The application stated that Nobel, detained since May 20, 2025, and the complainant wish to marry, claiming the case arose from a misunderstanding. The court instructed prison authorities to facilitate the marriage with mutual consent and report back.
Nobel was arrested on May 19, 2025, from his residence in Demra Staff Quarter, Dhaka, following allegations of detaining and raping the former Eden College student. The complainant filed the case at Demra Police Station, leading to Nobel’s arrest. On May 20, 2025, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin Ahmed rejected Nobel’s bail plea and ordered his detention pending investigation.
The complainant and Nobel met through social media in 2018, maintaining occasional contact. On November 12, 2024, Nobel allegedly lured her to his Demra residence under the pretext of showing her a studio, where she was held captive for seven months. She was subjected to physical assault, rape, and blackmail with recorded videos, reportedly with the involvement of 2-3 associates.
The victim’s ordeal came to light after a viral video showed Nobel dragging a woman down stairs, enabling her family to identify her. Her family, based in Tangail, contacted the National Emergency Service 999, leading to her rescue on May 19, 2025, at 9:30 PM. Nobel fled during the raid but was apprehended at 2:00 AM with technological assistance. Police revealed Nobel planned to flee the country, having rented a microbus.
Nobel gained fame through a music show on a private Kolkata TV channel and performed playback singing for films in India and Bangladesh.
