Dhaka, June 7, 2025: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has successfully completed the removal of sacrificial animal waste from its 75 wards. The operation was finalized by 9:30 PM on Saturday, June 7. During this year’s Eid-ul-Azha, a total of 133,317 animals were sacrificed across these wards.
The waste was initially collected at the community level and transferred to secondary transfer stations in each ward. Subsequently, it was transported by dump trucks to the Matuail Sanitary Landfill for final disposal. So far, approximately 12,000 metric tons of waste have been dumped at the landfill, out of a target of 30,000 metric tons.
Over 10,000 DSCC personnel were deployed for the waste management operation. The effort involved 207 dump trucks, 44 compactors, 39 container carriers, 16 pay-loaders, and a total of 2,079 vehicles across the 75 wards. Additionally, DSCC distributed 45 tons of bleaching powder, 207 five-liter gallons of Savlon, and 140,000 biodegradable bags among residents.
DSCC Administrator Md. Shahjahan Miah expressed gratitude to the cleaning staff and waste management teams for completing the task ahead of schedule despite rainfall. He also thanked citizens for their cooperation and the media for their responsible role in encouraging proper waste disposal and timely communication of DSCC’s messages. The administrator confirmed that DSCC is prepared to manage waste from sacrifices performed on the second and third days of Eid.
