The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, recently held separate meetings with leaders of two major political parties in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, to discuss contemporary political and social issues.
Meeting with BNP
On Thursday (June 26), a meeting took place in the morning at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, between EU Ambassador Michael Miller, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid. According to Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP’s media cell, Ambassador Miller arrived at the Gulshan office at 11 a.m. The discussion covered current political situations and matters of mutual interest.
Meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami
Earlier, on Tuesday (June 24), Ambassador Miller met with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. The meeting was held in a cordial and warm atmosphere. Among those present were Jamaat’s Naib-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher, Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, and the Ameer’s foreign affairs advisor, Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan. The discussion focused on objective exchanges regarding contemporary issues.
These meetings are seen as part of the EU’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with political parties in Bangladesh.
