Cumilla, June 9, 2025 : In a tragic incident in Cumilla’s Titas upazila, a father, Monu Miya, mixed poison with lassi and fed it to his two speech-impaired daughters before consuming it himself in an apparent suicide attempt. The two daughters, Monira (8) and Sanju Al Fateha (5), succumbed to the poison, while Monu Miya is currently undergoing treatment.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 9, in Tulakandi village of Jagatpur Union. Monu Miya, a speech-impaired resident of the village and son of Mokbul Hossain, reportedly took this drastic step due to societal taunts and frustration over multiple family members being speech-impaired.
According to family sources, Monu Miya’s daughters were also speech-impaired, and the constant derogatory remarks from locals pushed him to the edge. He mixed poison in lassi, fed it to his daughters, and consumed it himself.
Locals rushed the three to Titas Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared the two girls dead. Monu Miya was referred to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Titas Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahid Ullah stated, “The father, who is speech-impaired, fed poison to his two daughters and attempted suicide. This tragedy may have been triggered by speech impairment, poverty, and familial despair.”
