Joypurhat, June 25, 2025: Masud Rana, the former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akkelpur Thana in Joypurhat, has been demoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector (SI) following a departmental case involving allegations of bribery and corruption. Multiple sources within the police department have confirmed the development.
According to reports, the allegations stem from a 2018 incident when Masud Rana was serving as an Inspector in Rangpur Detective Branch (DB). He faced charges of accepting bribes and abusing power in connection with a murder case under Pirganj Thana in Rangpur. Following a thorough investigation, the accusations were substantiated, leading to his demotion from Inspector (OC) to SI for a period of three years as a punitive measure.
Masud Rana previously served as OC (Investigation) at Akkelpur Thana from July 20, 2023, before being promoted to OC on March 8, 2025. However, his tenure as OC was marred by a significant deterioration in law and order in Akkelpur, which ultimately led to his removal from the post.
Joypurhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Abdul Wahab confirmed the action, stating, “A departmental case was filed against him in 2018 over an incident in Rangpur. Based on the findings, this measure has been taken.”
