Police have arrested Mizanur Rahman, alias Mizan, a former part-time teacher at Pagla High School in Fatullah, Narayanganj, on charges of detaining and raping four schoolgirls from grades nine and ten. The arrest was made during a raid on Wednesday (June 25) at a residence on Sadek Khan Road in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. Three of the victims were rescued from his custody during the operation.
Mizanur Rahman, son of the late Abu Taleb Shikdar from Agailjhara, Barishal, was apprehended following a tip-off. According to police sources, Mizan lured the four students to Dhaka on June 6, 11, and 23, where he held them in a rented apartment and raped them multiple times. On June 23, one of the victims managed to escape and informed her family on June 24, revealing that three of her friends were still being held captive. Based on her information, police conducted the raid in Mohammadpur, rescuing the three girls and arresting Mizan.
Police further revealed that while Mizan resided in Dhaka, he worked as a part-time teacher at Pagla High School, teaching art and computer classes. He allegedly took advantage of school holidays on Fridays to lure students to Dhaka under false pretenses and assault them.
Mohammad Hasinuzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle A) in Narayanganj, stated that Mizan targeted students from underprivileged families. Of the four victims, two are in grade nine, and two are in grade ten. A case has been filed at Fatullah Police Station by the father of one of the victims, charging Mizan under rape and abduction laws. The court granted a three-day remand for Mizan, and the rescued students have provided statements under Section 22 of the law.
