Gazipur, June 23: Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the mob justice incident during the detention of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nurul Huda was undesirable. He emphasized that if any members of the law enforcement agencies were involved in such an incident, it would be investigated, and legal action would be taken. He made these remarks while addressing journalists after visiting the Horticulture Centre in Mawchak, Gazipur, on Monday morning.
The Adviser clarified that reports of former CEC Habibul Awal’s arrest were inaccurate. However, former CEC Nurul Huda was detained in Uttara. Expressing concern over the mob justice during Huda’s detention, he directed an investigation into any involvement of law enforcement personnel.
During the visit, the Adviser announced that a law to protect agricultural land is being formulated to prevent land grabbing. He stressed the need to increase the production of local fruits alongside foreign varieties to preserve them. He toured various sections of the Horticulture Centre, interacted with officials and staff, and provided necessary directives.
The visit was attended by Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, Superintendent of Police Dr. Chowdhury Zaber Sadek, Horticulture Centre’s Enamul Haque, and senior officials from the police and the Ministry of Agriculture.
