Dhaka, June 28, 2025: Today, from 10:50 AM to 12:30 PM, the inauguration ceremony of a training program for three-wheeled, low-speed battery-operated rickshaws (e-rickshaws) was held at the conference room on the 6th floor of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan. Organized by the Dhaka North City Corporation, the event saw the participation of high-ranking government officials and distinguished guests.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Lieutenant General (Retd.) Abdul Hafiz, NDC, PSC, Special Assistant to the Honorable Chief Adviser (Defence and Solidarity Development); Mr. Foyez Ahmad Taiyyab, Special Assistant to the Honorable Chief Adviser and Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology; Mr. Mohammad Ejaz, Honorable Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation; Mr. Md. Shahjahan Miah, Honorable Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation; Mr. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary of the Local Government Ministry; Mr. Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of DNCC; Brigadier General Md. Moin Uddin, Chief Engineer of DNCC; and Brigadier General Md. Imrul Kayes, Chief Health Officer of DNCC, along with approximately 90-100 other attendees.
The key discussion of the event focused on the government’s initiative to introduce three-wheeled, low-speed battery-operated rickshaws in the two city corporations of Dhaka. Under this program, drivers are being trained to gain expertise in safely and efficiently operating e-rickshaws. Additionally, it was highlighted that students are assisting in traffic management in Dhaka, for which they are being provided with an allowance. The technological contribution of engineers from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in designing these e-rickshaws was acknowledged with appreciation. The government is committed to phasing out illegal auto-rickshaws and promoting battery-operated rickshaws as a suitable alternative for Dhaka city. This initiative aims to make Dhaka a congestion-free city with an eco-friendly transportation system.
This training program is considered a significant step toward sustainable development and improving the quality of civic services in Dhaka city.
