Iran has claimed to have used its fourth-generation ‘Khaibar’ missile in a recent attack on Israel, marking its first deployment in the ongoing conflict. According to a statement issued by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, the advanced missile was utilized in the latest escalation with Israel.
The ‘Khaibar’ missile, officially known as Khorramshahr-4, is one of the latest additions to Iran’s medium-range ballistic missile arsenal. With a range of 2,000 kilometers, it can carry a 1,500-kilogram warhead, making it one of the heaviest warheads in Iran’s missile inventory. Powered by liquid fuel, the missile can be controlled during flight and is capable of adjusting its warhead’s trajectory outside the atmosphere. It boasts greater accuracy compared to its predecessors.
Technologically, the Khaibar can reach speeds of approximately Mach 16 (16 times the speed of sound) outside the atmosphere and Mach 8 within it. Its advanced capabilities make it challenging to intercept with conventional air defense systems. Analysts believe this attack introduces a new dimension to the Iran-Israel conflict.
