The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will resume all operations and civic services across its regional offices starting tomorrow, Monday (June 23), according to an announcement made by protestors. The statement was issued during a demonstration held in front of the DSCC Nagar Bhaban on Sunday morning (June 22).
During the event, organizers of the ongoing sit-in at Nagar Bhaban urged all relevant department officials and employees to return to their respective duties. They emphasized that utmost priority should be given to ensuring uninterrupted services for city residents.
The protestors further stated, “If any fascist official or their collaborators attempt to enter Nagar Bhaban, they will do so at their own risk. There is no place for fascists in Nagar Bhaban.”
Additionally, the demonstrators demanded the removal of Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, accusing him of defying the court and the constitution by not facilitating the oath-taking of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as DSCC mayor. They vowed to continue their peaceful protests to press for this demand.
Notably, although Ishraque Hossain has been declared the mayor of DSCC by the country’s highest court, the government has yet to make a decision regarding his oath-taking ceremony. In response, his supporters have been staging continuous sit-ins in front of Nagar Bhaban for the past several days.
