Iran Signals Willingness for Diplomacy Amid Rising Tensions in Middle East

Tehran, June 21, 2025 – Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated his country’s openness to diplomatic solutions, emphasizing a return to negotiations akin to the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA). According to a report by Jordan-based Roya News, Araghchi made these remarks in a statement on Saturday, June 21.

Araghchi highlighted Iran’s commitment to diplomacy, stating, “We see diplomacy as a strength, not a crisis. We are ready to return to the path of the 2015 agreement, which limited our nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.” However, he pointed out that Israel remains a significant obstacle, openly opposing diplomatic resolutions and favoring military aggression.
The 2015 JCPOA saw Iran scale back its nuclear activities in return for relaxed international sanctions. The deal collapsed in 2018 when former U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew, triggering renewed tensions between Iran and Western powers. Recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities have further intensified the situation, prompting retaliatory actions from Iran.
Araghchi’s remarks come at a critical juncture, with analysts noting that Iran’s diplomatic stance sends a significant message amid Israel’s aggressive military operations in the region. Speaking at a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul on Saturday, Araghchi also issued a stern warning to the United States, stating that U.S. involvement in any conflict would be “extremely dangerous for all.” He added that ongoing Israeli bombardments, backed by the U.S., make negotiations with Washington untenable.
The Iranian Foreign Minister’s recent discussions with European leaders in Geneva on Friday signal a potential diplomatic outreach, underscoring Iran’s willingness to engage despite regional hostilities. As tensions mount, Araghchi’s comments have sparked renewed debate about who truly seeks peace and who fuels conflict in the Middle East.
