Leaders from Jamaat, NCP, Hindu Mahajote Join Islamic Movement’s Grand Rally for Electoral Reforms

Dhaka, June 28, 2025: A massive rally organized by the Islamic Movement at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka saw participation from leaders of various political and religious organizations, including Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, AB Party, and representatives from Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian communities. The rally demanded electoral reforms, justice, proportional representation, and a level playing field in elections.

A five-member delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami, led by Nayeb-e-Amir Professor Mujibur Rahman, joined the event. Other prominent Jamaat leaders included Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretaries General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, and Maulana Abdul Halim.

The National Citizens Party (NCP) was represented by a three-member delegation led by Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, accompanied by Sarjis Alam, the party’s northern region chief organizer. Leaders from other parties, including Nurul Haq Nur of Gono Odhikar Parishad, Maulana Musa Bin Izhar of Nezami Islam Party, Ahmad Abdul Qader of Khelafat Majlis, Maulana Sakhawat Hossain Raji of Islami Oikya Jote, Jalal Uddin of Bangladesh Khelafat, and Yusuf Sadiq Haqqani of Khelafat Andolan, were also present.
The rally also saw participation from the Hindu Mahajote, led by General Secretary Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, alongside Dayal Kumar Barua of Bodhigyan Bhabna Kendra and Nirmal Rozario of the Bangladesh Christian Association. The event, which began at 10 AM with a Quran recitation, gained momentum by 2 PM with the main proceedings, drawing lakhs of supporters. The Suhrawardy Udyan echoed with chants of “Naray-e-Takbir Allahu Akbar.” Notably, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was not invited due to its opposition to proportional representation.
