NBR Issues Stern Warning to Officers and Employees

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a stern warning to its officers and employees, stating that disciplinary actions will be taken under government regulations for unauthorized absence, leaving the workplace prematurely, or arriving late to the office. This was announced in a press release signed by NBR’s Public Relations Officer Al Amin Sheikh on Saturday (June 28).

The press release highlighted NBR’s concern over disruptions in public services at field-level offices during a critical period for the country’s economic activities and revenue collection. Amid the ongoing movement by the NBR Reform Unity Council, the public is facing significant inconvenience in accessing services. In such circumstances, unauthorized absence, late attendance, or leaving the office without approval will be considered a breach of discipline and a punishable offense under applicable government rules.

Furthermore, to ensure the smooth operation of business, trade, import-export activities, and revenue collection during the final three working days of the fiscal year, commissioners of all NBR-affiliated offices, including Customs Houses, Tax Commissionerates, and Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerates, have been instructed to ensure the regular attendance of officers and employees. In cases of urgent need to leave the office, employees must obtain permission from the head of the office and record their departure in the office exit register.
NBR emphasized that these directives aim to maintain office discipline and ensure uninterrupted services for the public. Notably, the NBR Reform Unity Council has announced a complete shutdown of all tax, customs, and VAT offices starting today, June 28, along with a “peaceful March to NBR” program across the country.
