Faridpur: The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has announced a 23-member coordination committee for Faridpur district. Last week, Sayeda Nilima Dolla was appointed as the chief coordinator, with SM Zahid, Saif Hasan, Zillur Rahman, Bayezid Hossain, and Kamal Hossain as joint coordinators, along with 17 other members. The committee will remain in effect until a convening committee is formed. However, the formation process has drawn criticism from local activists over inadequate vetting.
Ashraf Hossain, NCP’s chief coordinator in Bhanga upazila, said, “The NCP emerged from the 2024 mass uprising. Unlike the Awami League, which prioritized dynastic politics under Sheikh Hasina, we reject nepotism. Sayeda Nilima Dolla actively participated in the 2024 uprising and played a satisfactory role in the fight against Awami fascism. She was selected as the district chief coordinator based on her merit, and her family background is irrelevant to us.”
He added, “A more thorough vetting process could have prevented this situation. Nevertheless, we are optimistic that under Nilima Dolla’s leadership, NCP’s activities in Faridpur will gain momentum.”
Since the committee’s formation, some party activists have expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that less active individuals were favored over more qualified ones. The NCP leadership has pledged to investigate these concerns and address them accordingly.
