Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of seeking war with Iran to prolong his grip on power. Clinton made these remarks during an interview on The Daily Show, as reported by Arab News.
Clinton stated, “Netanyahu has long wanted a war with Iran, as it would allow him to remain in power indefinitely. He’s been in office for most of the last 20 years.” He urged U.S. President Donald Trump to play a role in de-escalating the ongoing Israel-Iran tensions.
He further emphasized, “We should work to calm this volatile situation. I hope President Trump will take steps to do so.” Clinton expressed that neither Netanyahu nor Trump likely desires a full-scale war in the Middle East. However, he voiced concern that unannounced military actions are causing suffering for civilians.
Reaffirming U.S. support for its Middle Eastern allies, Clinton said, “We need to reassure our friends in the region that we stand with them and will strive to ensure their security.” He stressed that ordinary people want to live in peace, adding that war is not a viable solution.
