Dhaka, June 21, 2025: At the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), a high-level 9-member delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will depart Dhaka tonight for a visit to China. The primary objective of the visit is to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange political experiences at the party level.
The delegation includes: BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Selima Rahman, and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain (personal physician to the BNP Chairperson); BNP Chairperson’s advisers Zahir Uddin Swapan, Ismail Zabiullah, and Professor Dr. Sukomal Barua; and Dr. Maudud Ahmed Pavel, Convener of BNP’s Media Cell.
Syed Sayrul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP’s Media Cell, confirmed that the delegation will hold meetings with senior CPC leaders during the visit. The 11-day tour will include discussions with central and provincial CPC leaders in Beijing, Shanxi, and Yunnan provinces, aimed at fostering stronger ties between the two political parties.
BNP leaders emphasized that the visit will add a new dimension to Bangladesh-China relations and pave the way for enhanced development cooperation if BNP comes to power in the future. Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, 2024, China has intensified efforts to build relations with various Bangladeshi political parties, and analysts view this visit as a significant step in that direction.
