Dhaka, June 24, 2025: Faruk-e-Azam, Advisor on Liberation War Affairs, has announced that injured fighters and capable members of martyr families from the July 2024 uprising will receive priority in government and semi-government jobs. He shared this in an exclusive interview with the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) at his Secretariat office on Monday (June 23).
Faruk-e-Azam stated that while it took 54 years to compile the list of genuine Liberation War fighters, the interim government has finalized the list of martyrs and injured fighters from the July uprising within just seven to eight months, reflecting the government’s sincerity and responsibility. A dedicated directorate has been established for the rehabilitation of July fighters, with 20 officers led by an Additional Secretary working round-the-clock to address their interests.
The advisor emphasized that July fighters are an integral part of democratic Bangladesh’s history, and their sacrifices will always be remembered with respect. He assured that the government would sincerely address cases of missing fighters, including through DNA testing if necessary.
The government has introduced a financial support system for July fighters. Category ‘A’ fighters will receive BDT 20,000 monthly, Category ‘B’ fighters BDT 15,000, and Category ‘C’ fighters BDT 10,000. Families of the 834 listed martyrs will receive a one-time payment of BDT 30 lakh, with BDT 10 lakh already disbursed in the 2024-25 fiscal year and the remaining BDT 20 lakh to be provided in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Martyr families will also receive a monthly allowance of BDT 20,000.
Among the injured, 493 Category ‘A’ fighters, who are severely incapacitated, will receive a one-time payment of BDT 5 lakh and a monthly allowance of BDT 20,000. Category ‘B’ includes 908 fighters who can move with partial assistance, receiving a one-time payment of BDT 3 lakh and a monthly allowance of BDT 15,000. Category ‘C’ includes 10,642 fighters who have recovered, receiving a one-time payment of BDT 1 lakh and a monthly allowance of BDT 10,000.
Faruk-e-Azam added that August 5 will be observed as July Uprising Day annually with due importance. While payments to 134 martyr families are delayed due to inheritance issues, these are being resolved swiftly. Errors in the list of injured fighters are also being addressed through investigation.
This comprehensive support underscores the interim government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the July uprising heroes.
