Sylhet Bureau, June 16, 2025 : In Jafalong, Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet, activists of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal staged a protest, blocking the convoy of two interim government advisers, Sayeda Rizwana Hasan and Mohammad Fawzul Kabir Khan. The incident occurred on Saturday (June 14) around 11 AM as the advisers were returning from a visit to the Jafalong tourist center. Protesters chanted “fake, fake” slogans and obstructed the road, with a video of the protest going viral on social media.
In response, a case was filed at Gowainghat Police Station, accusing the protesters of road obstruction, hindering government work, and creating chaos. The case names nine individuals, including expelled Gowainghat Upazila Jubo Dal joint convener Zahid Khan as the prime accused and Union Chhatra Dal president Azir Uddin as the second accused. Additionally, 100 to 150 unidentified individuals have been listed as accused. The case was lodged by Gowainghat Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Obayed Ullah on Sunday (June 15) at 11 PM.
Gowainghat Police Station’s Inspector (Investigation) Md. Kabir Hossain confirmed that operations to apprehend the accused are ongoing. The Officer-in-Charge (OC), Sarkar Tofayel Ahmed, stated that the accused face charges of unlawfully assembling, obstructing movement, hindering government duties, and causing disorder.
Following the incident, Zahid Khan was expelled from Jubo Dal on Sunday afternoon and evening. Additionally, the president of East Jafalong Union Chhatra Dal was issued a show-cause notice.
