Hundreds of protesters gathered in Iran’s holy city of Qom on Friday, June 13, 2025, demanding strong military action against Israel in response to its recent attacks. The protests were fueled by outrage over the deaths of senior Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists, women, and children in Israeli strikes. A video posted on X by the Iranian news agency Tasnim showed hundreds of protesters assembled at the Jamkaran Mosque in Qom, raising anti-Israel slogans and waving Iranian flags.
Located 140 kilometers south of Tehran, Qom is one of Iran’s holiest cities. The protesters called on the Iranian government to take retaliatory measures against Israel. In response to the Israeli attacks, Iran launched over a hundred drones and missiles toward Israel on Friday morning. However, Israeli and Jordanian military forces reportedly intercepted these drones and missiles mid-flight.
According to the Israeli military, Iran initiated drone attacks on Friday morning following Israeli strikes on Thursday night (June 12). Israel’s public broadcaster reported that drones entering through Syrian airspace were intercepted. Additionally, the Israeli Air Force has been working to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) entering via Saudi Arabian airspace. Jordan’s military also confirmed that it shot down several missiles and drones that entered its airspace, with sirens heard in the capital, Amman.
The Israeli attacks have sparked widespread anger across Iran, with protesters demanding harsh punitive measures against Israel. These events have further escalated tensions in the Middle East.
