June 6, 2025 : In a historic milestone, the Padma Bridge recorded its highest-ever single-day toll collection, amassing Tk5.43 crore from 52,487 vehicles crossing the bridge in the last 24 hours as of Thursday, June 5, 2025. This surpasses the previous record set on April 9, 2024, when Tk4.89 crore was collected.
The unprecedented toll collection coincided with the first day of a 10-day holiday for Eid-ul-Azha, highlighting the bridge's critical role in facilitating travel during festive periods. On Wednesday, June 4, despite not being a holiday, the bridge saw 37,465 vehicles, generating over Tk4.09 crore in tolls.
On Thursday, the Mawa toll plaza recorded 35,985 vehicles, collecting Tk3.16 crore, while the Jazira end saw 16,502 vehicles, contributing Tk2.26 crore to the total, according to Altaf Hossain Sheikh, Joint Secretary and Director (Administration) of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority.
Previously, the highest vehicle crossing record was set on June 26, 2022, the bridge’s inauguration day, with 51,316 vehicles. Altaf emphasized the bridge’s significance, stating, “The Padma Bridge plays a vital role in ensuring hassle-free travel for people returning home during Eid.”
As the Padma Bridge approaches its third anniversary on June 25, 2025, it has facilitated the passage of over 1.89 crore vehicles and collected more than Tk2,452.82 crore in tolls since its inception.
