Russia Stands by Iran: 600 Russian Experts Assist, Putin Takes Firm Stance

Following Israeli attacks on Iran, Russia has pledged its support, with Russian President Vladimir Putin revealing that approximately 600 Russian specialists are working on various projects in Iran, including 250 in Bushehr. “We will never abandon Iran,” Putin stated.

The remarks were made on Thursday (June 19) during a press conference at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Putin proposed that Russia could oversee Iran’s nuclear program if Iran agrees, ensuring uranium is used solely for peaceful purposes.
He confirmed that Russian scientists are constructing two nuclear reactors in Bushehr, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured him that the area would not be attacked.
Addressing queries about arms supplies, Putin clarified that a January 2024 Russia-Iran agreement does not include weapons, and Iran has not formally requested any. He emphasized balancing Iran’s security with Israel’s concerns, advocating for a peaceful resolution to enable Iran’s nuclear energy use without alarming Israel.
Putin also acknowledged Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s diplomatic efforts in mediating the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
