Tarique Rahman Arrives at Hotel Dorchester for Meeting with Chief Adviser

London, June 13, 2025 – Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), arrived at the Hotel Dorchester in London’s Park Lane to hold a highly anticipated meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The meeting, scheduled to commence at 2:00 PM local time, has sparked significant political discussions in Bangladesh.
According to sources, Tarique Rahman left his residence around 1:00 PM Bangladesh time on Friday to attend the meeting. Dr. Yunus, currently on a four-day official visit to London, arrived in the city on Tuesday morning. Tarique Rahman, who has been residing in London with his family since 2008, is effectively leading the BNP from abroad.
The meeting, confirmed by both the government and the BNP last Monday, is expected to focus on critical national issues, with a particular emphasis on the upcoming general election. BNP sources indicate that Tarique Rahman is likely to prioritize three key issues: elections, reforms, and justice. The party is particularly focused on advancing the timeline for the next general election. While the interim government has announced a roadmap for elections in the first half of April next year, the BNP believes December this year is a more suitable time. Party insiders suggest that the BNP would also accept elections in January or February 2026, before Ramadan, without objections.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed told Kalbela that the high-level meeting will address significant national issues, including advancing the election timeline and ensuring the government’s neutrality. He emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and judicial decisions, alongside potential discussions on reforms. “We will approach these matters with a positive outlook, hoping for a nationally acceptable resolution through this dialogue,” he said.
The meeting has generated widespread speculation about its agenda and outcomes, with political circles closely watching its implications for Bangladesh’s political landscape.
