Dhaka, June 16, 2025: Anwar Hossain, a notorious drug dealer, succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting incident stemming from a drug-related dispute in Dhaka’s Badda area. Anwar was an accused in 11 criminal cases.
On the night of May 8, Anwar was shot at Bhuiyan Bari Mor in Badda. He was hit by four out of five rounds fired at him. Despite receiving treatment at various hospitals, he passed away on Sunday, June 15, at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital.
Anwar’s nephew, Sinbad, revealed that his uncle was involved in the yaba trade, which had led to ongoing conflicts with a rival drug trafficking group. This rivalry culminated in the attack on May 8, carried out by drug dealers named Nura, Tuhin, Rasel, Helal, Nayan, Shooter Salauddin, Kailla Yusuf, Delwar, Shaon, Ratan, and Forma Sumon.
Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam stated that the police were initially unaware of the shooting incident. They learned about it on Sunday and visited DMC Hospital, where they confirmed that the attack was motivated by a dispute over the drug trade. Anwar had one assault case and 10 drug-related cases against him. A case (No. 15) has been filed at Badda Police Station in connection with the incident.
