Tulip Siddiq Summoned Again by ACC: Alleged to Have Taken Bribe in Form of Apartment from Eastern Housing

 

Dhaka, June 16, 2025: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has once again summoned Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, a British MP and niece of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for questioning. She is accused of receiving an apartment as a “bribe’ from Eastern Housing Limited in Dhaka. Tulip has been asked to appear at the ACC headquarters on June 22 at 10:00 AM.
The summons notice was sent to her residential addresses in Mohammadpur, Bangladesh, Dhanmondi, and Gulshan-1 and 2 in Dhaka, as well as through the Gulshan and Dhanmondi police stations. Previously, on May 14, she was summoned but did not respond.
The case alleges that Tulip facilitated the “illegal” transfer of a plot in Gulshan, originally allotted in 1969 to then-Justice Imam Hossein Chowdhury, in exchange for a free apartment from Eastern Housing. The plot, governed by a 99-year lease agreement, was not permitted to be transferred or subdivided. Despite this, with the involvement of Rajuk officials, Eastern Housing was illegally allowed to construct and transfer apartments, and Tulip allegedly received an apartment as a reward, according to the case statement.
The case was filed on April 15 by ACC’s Assistant Director Monirul Islam. Former Rajuk Assistant Legal Advisor Shah Md. Khurshiduzzaman and Sardar Mossharraf Hossain are also named as accused. The case. The case was filed under various sections of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
Earlier, an arrest was issued against Tulip in a separate case involving plot corruption in Purbachal. The ACC is investigating various allegations against Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and their family members.
