Youth Arrested for Kidnapping, Raping, and Forcing Abortion on Teenage Girl

A youth named Zahed Hasan (37) has been arrested in Noakhali’s Hatiya upazila for kidnapping and raping a teenage girl and forcing her to undergo an abortion. The arrest was made during a joint operation by RAB-11 and RAB-7 in Sankotala Bazar, Bhaktapur Union, Chattogram’s Fatikchhari, on Saturday (June 28) evening.

Zahed Hasan, a resident of Char Fakir village in Ward No. 9 of Sonadia Union, Hatiya upazila, is the son of Jahangir Alam and a neighbor of the victim. He is also a father of three children. According to reports, on January 6 at around 7 a.m., the teenage girl went to a field near her home to dry paddy. Taking advantage of dense fog, Zahed sprayed an anesthetic on her face, kidnapped her, and took her to a location behind a shop in Golaippar, near Kaptai Road in Chattogram. There, he held her captive and raped her repeatedly over several months. When the victim resisted, Zahed injured her right elbow with a sharp knife and continued the assaults by intimidating her. He also attempted to kill her by throwing her into a river and under a train. As a result of the prolonged assaults, the girl became three months pregnant, after which Zahed forcibly administered medication to terminate the pregnancy. On June 18, around 1 p.m., he abandoned the victim near her home and fled. Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar Kundu, Acting Company Commander of RAB-11, CPC-3, told Dhaka Post that the victim’s parents filed a General Diary (GD) at Hatiya Police Station immediately after the incident. A case was later filed in court, and based on the court’s order, a case was registered at Hatiya Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming three accused. The arrested suspect, Zahed Hasan, will be sent to jail through the court.
