The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has declared a complete ban on participation in future editions of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) following the conclusion of the 2025 tournament. The decision was made during the PCB’s 79th Board of Governors (BoG) meeting, held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi.
The ban stems from controversies surrounding the 2025 WCL, particularly the cancellation of matches between India Champions and Pakistan Champions due to political tensions. The Indian team refused to play two matches—a league-stage game and the semifinal—citing political reasons. In the league match, both teams were awarded one point each, while Pakistan Champions advanced to the final via a walkover in the semifinal.
In light of these issues, the PCB has resolved not to participate in any future WCL tournaments influenced by political agendas. Notably, Pakistan Champions, led by Shoaib Malik, reached the final of the 2025 WCL in Northampton after defeating West Indies but lost to South Africa by nine wickets. However, the PCB’s boycott announcement has overshadowed the tournament, sending a strong message against the politicization of sports.
