Dhaka, August 3, 2025 – The Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCPLC) has achieved a significant milestone by reaching an international bandwidth supply of 4 terabytes per second (TBps) in August 2025, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Office issued on Saturday. Foyez Ahmad Taiyyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, also confirmed this achievement in a Facebook post.
The statement highlighted that BSCPLC supplied 200 gigabytes of bandwidth for Starlink’s commercial internet services launched in July, contributing to the 4 TBps milestone achieved on August 1. Previously, on April 28, the bandwidth supply stood at 3 TBps, marking an increase of 1 TBps in just three months.
The government noted that in the eight months prior to April, bandwidth usage had grown by 1.10 TBps. During the Awami League’s tenure, over 65% of BSCPLC’s capacity remained unused. However, under the interim government’s administration, bandwidth growth has surged by more than 120% within a year.
Sources from BSCPLC revealed that after the current government took office, it set a 50% bandwidth allocation limit for both International Terrestrial Cable (ITC) and Submarine Cable systems. Additionally, Starlink’s bandwidth demand, formalized on August 1, has further boosted BSCPLC’s supply capacity.
The press release stated that with policy support from the Posts and Telecommunications Division, discounted pricing, and BSCPLC’s efforts, the company has increased its market share and revenue collection.
The government has also signed an agreement for the revised route of SEA-ME-WE-6, alongside the existing SEA-ME-WE-4 and SEA-ME-WE-5 submarine cables. This proposal was approved in the latest ECNEC meeting, adding a new capacity of 17 TBps to the submarine cable system.
