Meherpur, June 24, 2025: Anwar Hossain Pasha, Chairman of Soltaka Union Parishad and Joint Convener of Gangni Upazila Yubo League, was granted a two-hour parole to attend his mother’s funeral on Tuesday. The parole, effective from 9 AM to 11 AM, allowed Pasha to participate in the funeral rites before being escorted back to Meherpur prison under strict security.
According to family sources, Pasha’s mother passed away at around 3 PM on Monday at a hospital in Kushtia. Following her death, the family applied to the district administration for his temporary release. The administration approved a two-hour parole, and Pasha was transported under heavy police escort to his village, Minapara, in a police convoy. The funeral prayer was held at Minapara Government Primary School, followed by the burial at a local graveyard. After the rites, Pasha was promptly returned to Meherpur prison.
The funeral saw the participation of local residents, public representatives, political leaders, and people from various walks of life.
Pasha has been detained in Meherpur prison following his arrest in a case related to sabotage during the July mass uprising.
