Dhaka, June 06, 2025: Zonayed Saki, Chief Coordinator of Ganasanghati Andolan, while welcoming the Chief Adviser's proposed timeline for elections, raised concerns about the feasibility of holding elections in April. Responding to the Chief Adviser’s speech on Friday (June 06) night, Saki argued that factors such as Ramadan, SSC examinations, and weather conditions make April an unsuitable time for elections.
Saki suggested that holding elections in early February, before Ramadan, would have been more appropriate. “The matter demands further discussion. If everyone cannot participate in the elections with confidence and enthusiasm, the process will not be meaningful,” he stated. He emphasized that reforms implemented with the public’s mandate in the upcoming parliament would be more sustainable. Additionally, he proposed simultaneous elections for the national parliament and a constitutional reform council.
Addressing the Chief Adviser’s remarks on countering critics of the port issue, Saki noted that such language was not justified from a position of public trust. He also questioned the credibility of those who drafted the Chief Adviser’s speec.
