Bribery Allegations Lead to Withdrawal of Six Officers, Including OC, from Brahmanbaria Highway Police Station

Six individuals, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarail Khatihatta Highway Police Station, Mamun Rahman, and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Biplu Barua, have been immediately withdrawn from their posts. On Monday morning, they were transferred to the office of the Police Superintendent of the Cumilla Region of the Highway Police.

According to highway police and local sources, on July 3, a covered van transporting goods from Sylhet to Dhaka was detained by on-duty patrol police on the highway. Allegations were raised that the van was carrying illegal goods, and the police personnel extorted 80,000 taka from the vehicle. The incident was later reported by a private television channel. Following this, the six officers, including the OC, were promptly withdrawn on Monday. Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Sajib Mia, who has taken charge as the acting OC of Sarail Khatihatta Highway Police Station, told Prothom Alo, “Six individuals have been withdrawn based on a complaint. I have been performing the duties since yesterday.” Confirming the incident, the Police Superintendent (SP) of the Cumilla Region of the Highway Police, Khairul Alam, told Prothom Alo that the six officers, including the OC, were withdrawn from Sarail Khatihatta Highway Police Station and attached to the Cumilla office of the Highway Police due to the complaint. An Additional Superintendent of Police is investigating the matter, and legal action will be taken against them based on the severity of the offense as determined by the investigation report.
