Mymensingh, July 15, 2025: Four days after going missing, the body of a five-year-old child was found in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh. On Tuesday morning, the body of Sadab Hossain was discovered in a pond approximately 150 yards from his grandparents’ home in Dighirpar village, Panchbag Union.Sadab Hossain, son of Saudi expatriate Al Amin from Bargharia village in Jahangirpur Union, Nandail Upazila, was living with his mother at his maternal grandparents’ home in Dighirpar village. He went missing on July 11 around noon. Following his disappearance, his grandfather, Sultan Miya, filed a general diary (GD) at Pagla Police Station. On July 12, around noon, the family received calls from two mobile numbers demanding ransoms of Tk 30,000 and Tk 50,000. The family sent Tk 20,000 to one number and Tk 8,000 to the other. Sultan Miya stated, “The callers assured us that the boy was fine and would be returned within half an hour of sending the money. But when we went to Gafargaon Railway Station as instructed, the phone numbers were switched off.” Sadab’s uncle, Khalil Miya, told that, “Around 6:30 AM today, a neighbor went to cut grass near a pond 150 yards from our house and noticed a foul smell. Upon investigation, he found my nephew’s body. I don’t know if he drowned or was killed and dumped there.” The body has been sent to Mymensingh Medical College morgue for an autopsy. Pagla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ferdous Alam confirmed that the suspects involved in the ransom demands are from Gaibandha district. He added that the police are investigating the extortion ring and keeping the matter under close surveillance.
