Dhaka, July 16, 2025 – The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court has granted a five-day remand for Mahmudul Hasan, alias Mohin, in connection with the brutal murder of scrap dealer Lal Chand, alias Sohag (39), in front of Mitford (Sir Salimullah Medical College) Hospital. The decision was made on Tuesday following a police application for further interrogation.
Court sources revealed that police sought a 10-day remand for Mohin, who was produced in court on Tuesday. After hearing both sides, the court approved a five-day remand for further questioning.
The incident occurred on July 9, when Lal Chand was brutally killed in broad daylight on a busy street in front of Mitford Hospital. The following day, Lal Chand’s sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a murder case at Kotwali Police Station, naming 19 individuals and 15-20 unidentified persons as accused.
So far, eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. They are Md. Nannu Kazi, Sajib Byapari, Rajib Byapari, Titu Gazi, Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, Tarek Rahman Robin, Alamgir, and Monir, alias Chhoto Monir.
A video of the brutal killing, which took place in front of Mitford Hospital’s Gate No. 3, went viral on the internet last Wednesday evening. On Monday night, one of the prime suspects, Md. Nannu Kazi, was arrested in Narayanganj, while brothers Rajib Byapari and Sajib Byapari were apprehended in Netrokona. On Tuesday, the court granted a five-day remand for their interrogation.
Earlier, on Sunday, suspects Alamgir and Monir, alias Chhoto Monir, were granted a four-day remand. On Saturday, Md. Titu Gazi (32) was also remanded for five days for questioning in connection with the murder.
