Fatema Tuz Johra, the mother of Abdullah Bin Zahid, who was martyred in the July uprising, has alleged that no one has inquired about her family’s well-being. She further claimed that despite making numerous calls to NCP leaders Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, they have not responded.
Speaking at a discussion meeting titled *‘People’s Uprising 2024: National Unity and Democratic Journey’* organized by BNP on Tuesday (1 July) afternoon, she made these allegations in a tearful voice. Abdullah was shot dead in the airport area on the evening of 5 August during the July uprising that led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
Fatema Tuz Johra said, “I have two sons. My elder son, Abdullah Bin Zahid, was 17 years old, and my younger son is 14. Fourteen days after my elder son’s death, my younger son was diagnosed with cancer. He is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital. My husband passed away on 18 May due to a brain stroke. The ‘BNP Paribar’ has supported my younger son’s treatment and inquired about his condition. His next operation is scheduled for this Friday. I urge everyone to pray so that I can hold on to my last remaining support.”
She added, “The advisory council and interim government have not reached out to us even once. They gained power through my son’s blood, yet they haven’t bothered to check on us. We called Sarjis and Hasnat 100 times, but they never answered.”
The event was attended virtually by BNP’s acting chairman Tariq Rahman. The chief guest, former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, also spoke virtually. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present as a special guest, and the event was chaired by the party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Special seating arrangements were made for the families of those killed and injured in the July-August movement.
According to party sources, BNP plans to provide “special benefits” to these families if they come to power in the future. The event was attended by BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Zahid Hossain, and other central and metropolitan leaders.
